Background

A group of travelers sailing from the Dimelian port-city of Northwater to the Reverean city of Bamborough. Captain "Ricksaw" of The Longbow had sailed the route many times, and needed little assistance to navigate the journey. The trip cost 4 gold (food and drink not included) and was said to take 4 days, but favorable winds had cut that down by a half-day. The contents of the ship's cargo are not disclosed to the passengers or even most of the crew. The session began on the last night of their voyage, as they expected to be reaching Bamborough possibly before sunrise.

Summary

On the Ship

In the midst of night the travelers gathered on the deck of the ship to watch the arrival to port. However they were met with a thick fog that obscured their vision and prevented them from seeing far beyond the ship's bow. They retreated to the inside of the ship where a fight between Richard Miller and a sailor took place at the bar. Richard won the fight, and the party returned to the deck of the ship to the sound of ringing bells. A second ship was spotted vaguely through the fog, and Jordel recognized the sails to be a Reverean fleet ship. The ship opened fire with cannons and disabled the steering of the ship forcing it to crash into a rock and throwing Richard Miller into the mast knocking him out. As the ship was sinking, Slackjaw simply grabbed his fishing rod from his room and abandoned ship, swimming to shore with ease. Ralo ripped off a wooden plank from the ship's stairs to use as a raft for him and Jordel. Richard was awoken by a near miss with a cannon ball and made his way to finally abandon ship as well.

Treading Water

After the ship sank, Ralo and Jordel were doing their best to stay above water. Jordel, being significantly lighter with less equipment, had little trouble staying afloat. Ralo needed to drop is Leather Armor and Climbers Kit to swim to the surface and reach Jordel. Richard had to abandon his two gallons of ale that he had on his person, in order to swim to the surface. After doing so he was treading water passed Jordel and Ralo when his eye spotted a barrel floating passed him. Richard grabbed the barrel using it as a raft, but also hoping there was ale inside to replace his recent loss.

Washed Ashore

Jordel, Ralo, and Richard made it to shore after swimming for some time. When they reached shore they were met by Slackjaw. They were given a few moments rest before a Wyvern unexpectedly landed on the beach to search for food. The Wyvern attacked an unamed catfolk man, throwing him back into the water after biting him. Jordel, Ralo, and Richard fled immediately after. With morning still many hours away, they were stumbling along the path, until the Wyvern at the beach landed in front of them. Right before it is about to kill Richard, Psetheia's Spear streaked through the air and struck the Wyvern in the head eviscerating it's skull. The spear then flew into the air and landed blade first into the dirt road. Jordel called out to the forest requesting to know who had saved them from the Wyvern, but instead he would telepathically contacted by the weapon itself. It would make a request to be taken to the Reverean King in return for saving them. After taking a moment to make sure the weapon would not hurt them by weilding it, Jordel opted to carry and did so. Before deciding which path to travel, the weapon attempted to convince Jordel to take another route but failed. Jordel stuck with Ralo's instincts and followed him instead of the talking sword.

Traveling the Roads

On their journey the group encountered a group of one man and two orcs. Ralo improvised on a plan, taking advantage of Slackjaw's idea of hiding in plain sight trying to look like a regular alligator. After seeing that one of the orcs sensed him and Jordel, Ralo jumped out of the bushes and claimed that he was looking for his pet alligator named "ChiChi". The man explained that they were looking for the Sword spear, which prompted Jordel to expertly slide the weapon somewhere hidden without being noticed. One of the orcs, dimwitted and curious about the alligator, was leaning forward examining the creatures teeth, when Ralo shoved him head first into the gator's mouth, to which Slackjaw bit down with full strength, rolled over, and decapitated the orc. Slackjaw then stood up to his full height and scared the other two off. They discussed what happened for a while before continuing down the path to Veritas.

Reaching Veritas

After reaching Veritas, Jordel discovered that his passing papers into the city were damaged in the shipwreck. He cunningly used the emblem on his cape that was of the Dimelian origin to explain that he was indeed a consul. The guards were convinced, and explained they were more lenient now that the civil war was over. When they entered the city the group was exhausted, having not slept in over a day. They decided to stay at an inn, where they could rest up before heading to the keep in Veritas to meet with the Reverean consul.

The Royal Court

After the group made their way into the royal throneroom to meet with the Reverean advisor, Jordel took the lead on discussing arrangements for a replacement ship as well as scolding him for the Reverean Navy's actions. He handed the talking sword-spear to the adviser who immediately dropped it due to the weapons magical properties. A guardsman was ordered to take it instead. The sword-spear said to Jordel telepathically as it was taken away "This wasn't how it was supposed to happen". Jordel thought to himself "This is how it happens in the civilized world". The guard brought it to the head mage, and the characters moved to the garden to say their goodbyes and go separate ways.

Results

All characters survived the journey to Veritas. Jordel decided to not trust the telepathic sword-spear and instead of giving it to the King of Reovere, handed it to the adviser who gave it to the headmage. To this day, the small group of travelers have no idea why the talking weapon wanted to be given to the king.

Jordel arranged for a new ship for Slackjaw, as compensation for the last one being destroyed. Slackjaw (who claimed he was the captain in order to acquire the ship), got part of what he needed, but still without money, crew or cargo Slackjaw would have to find other means of being able to afford both.

All characters went their separate ways.
