Appearance
Fonia is a 5'6" tall human with long red hair, fair skin, and green eyes. After her resurrection, she was given a new form that included blue raven wings that span up to 16 feet, a plume of fathers over her ears, and several patches of feathers across her body. She also has permanent blue markings from her tribe origins above her brows and on her chin. She's covered in permanent scars, marks, and bruises as lingering side effects of her resurrection. She also has a false foot on her left leg. Most of the leg below the knee was missing when she was resurrected, luckily Morlum had constructed her a more accurate prosthetic when she was reunited with The Wilde Hunt as they returned to the Whisper Hollow.
Personality
As the party first met her as frighten and timid. Her experience with outsiders had been mostly negative to that point. Being unable to speak was a major hindrance to her ability to be non threatening, especially with the marks on her face that identified her as a part of the tribe that was known for murdering people in the area. When leaving the hollow she was largely afraid of most unfamiliar things because of her seclusion and isolation that led her to being curious but from a distance. Up until her experience in Malnathas where she started to question the purpose of the player's goals, what they were doing and why.
After her resurrection she returned with newfound confidence, a driving motivation to lead her tribe and stop Thymlyssa. The timid nature from previously being largely removed due to being thrusted into a leadership role, with the blessings of her diety, and having something to fight for.
Experience With The Party
Magport
Her arrival at Magport was the first time she was out of her element. Her nerves were sensitive, and anxiety was hitting her hard. She needed to hide, to be less visible. She had lived her whole life worried about being stabbed in the back when she wasn’t paying attention, and now she was surrounded by people she didn’t know on all sides.
The Good Luck
Being on a sailing ship was no less stressful, although she took it better than being in the city. The ship may have had tight confines that gave her a sense of claustrophobia, making her stay up at night, and having a roomate that was turning into a fishboy didn't help. She learned to cope with the sea-sickness. Or at least she thought she did, until the medicine Casper gave her wore off.
Malnathas
Liking it more than magport but still opposed to being surrounded by people, Fonia began to develop trust issues with the people she was meeting. While Creek, Reese, and Moro seemed to hash out their opinions of the situations, she was wondering what their goal was and what they were doing. She knew they wanted help in fighting the orcs, and ended up being roped into some grand initiation ritual that made her bloodbound to an evil elven empress who she already had far suspicions of. She would be greatly traumatized by a vision:
“You are standing in Yuma’s garden and your friends are looking at you smiling, so is Yuma. But the sky turns grey, everyone turns their back to you shaking their heads in disappointment. You go to call out to them but you can’t speak, Yuma rips off your hears so you can’t hear, she pulls out your tongue and rips off your jaw so you can’t speak, then rips off your legs so you can’t walk. And you’ll never get any of it back. Then the garden, the forest, everything surrounding you burns, Yuma looking down at you with a scowl. Your friends burn alive, and you begin to burn, but cannot move, scream, or resist in any way as you feel the heat consume your flesh and bubble inside and out. Then you wake up out of your trance”
—Beans
Fonia would forever be afraid of Yuma after this vision. She made a large mess of the room she stayed in when they got back. She went into a rage, a panic, a series of confused, scared, and angry emotions until Creek entered the room and calmed her down. She would never forget, couldn’t forget, at this point she knew everything they had done to this point was someone else's will. She didn’t have the free will she once did, even regretted leaving the Hollow, but had to push on further into this dark life she brought herself in. She couldn't stand being owned, branded, used, it reminded her too much of her childhood. And with the traumatizing images of Yuma ripping her jaw off she wouldn’t recover from that despair inside that she longed to be rid of. She wanted nothing more, but to make sure the people she cared about got out to live on. And so she fought, she fell, and she died, buried in the rubble of the collapsing palace.
Death
There was nothing left but the endless sleep, forever to drift aimlessly through the void of endless darkness. Nothing to disturb, distract, or even disrupt the peace that envelops one during death. Sometimes you wonder if this is the outcome someone would hope for. After all, especially for someone like Fonia, having it all finally be over might be the only way she can reach peace now without the guidance of those she trusts.
Revival
Brought back from death, her Hawk companion Verja gone, and Ebvy standing in front of her, she was given a new form, and, seeing what was sacrificed to bring her back, she had a newfound drive to do what she was brought back to do: Lead the Warsong and protect the Hollow. With the blessings of her Diety she would work with newfound confidence and pride.
Relationships
Creek
Creek was Fonia's closest friend, and someone who she trusted like nobody else. Creek was the first one who really ever inquired about her past, and allowed to share her griefs that she couldn't express before her voice was returned. Creek was there for her both when they almost died to the sea monster on the Good Luck, and when she was having a meltdown after the traumatizing visions she experienced from Thymlyssa's blood ritual in Malnathas. She still bears the gift of the psi crystal around her neck, hoping one day she might be able to find out what happened to him. She feels that she knows Creek, and for him to leave the party so suddenly seems to unlike him that she refuses to believe he did it on his own will.
Frer'Cahl
Frer was a friend of Fonia's who taught her the basics of Drow sign language. She trusted him as well, and even worked together on some caissons when sneaking around and using the sign language as a form of silent communication. When comforting Frer after he discovered more about his past and was in tears she used the sign language for "friend" and let him know she had his back, and would help him.
When she discovered that Frer had left the group with Danassa, another person who Fonia did not trust, she was angry, frustrated, but most of all she blames Danassa for taking that friend from her.
Moro
Moro was someone who Fonia did not interact with much when they first met, but was the person who caught her by the legs when she tried to run away from the group the first time in the Whisper Hollow. Fonia's diffidence had led her to even avoid Moro at points, due to her sardonic tone, or at least interpreted as such. In addition, she did not have confidence in her speech and had reservations about her ability to fully express what she thought.
After her return and meeting the group at the Whisper Hollow again, Fonia had newfound confidence and have become much more fluent in the common language. She had a long talk with Moro the night the party stayed in the Warsong camp. They shared each other's pasts, caught up on the events of the party, and shared their personal griefs and concerns. They became much closer friends, and came to understand each other a lot more.
Reese
Back in the Hollow, Fonia had followed Reese when he left to visit the remainder of what he called his home. Reese has been someone that's often times on the same page with Fonia when it comes to opinions about people. One particular instance when Reese decided to not wear the Wild Hunt clothes when they left to go on an errand for Thymlyssa, she did not either. They also both have a lingering distrust of Orcs due to their experiences with them in the past.
Urgnak
Urgnak is one individual Fonia is frustrated by. In her experience, she sees him as childish and naive. Due to events in the fey dungeon in the Whisper Hollow, she tries convincing Urgnak to give her the amulet that he took from one of the dungeons traps. She was unsuccessful, and later found out he was taking more things from the dungeon. This led to a confrontation where she was pushed into some magic moss by Urgnak in frustration. Luckily no harm came to her, but she still holds distrust after that. Slightly alleviated by Urgnak grabbing her and running her up the hill in the Red Dream when she was struggling because of her leg, begrudgingly. Also, she respects that he was the one who killed Pa, one of Thymlyssa's Eyes.
Morlum
Morlum is a good friend of Fonia's that she trusts. She has never doubted his dedication to his friends and their cause. She finds him honorable, wise, and even comedic at times. Morlum had constructed a more articulate prosthetic for her missing foot out of the materials in the Whisper Hollow that she is ever grateful for. In addition, he inspired her to not be so self-conscious about her scars, and wear them with pride.
Elodea
Elodea is a mystery to Fonia. She doesn't know what to think of her, except that she's been with the group since she met them, and has remained loyal. She hates that damned gun sounds though.
Azu
Azu is someone that while Fonia disagrees with, she gets along with well enough. While they are not close, she accepts his role in the group as a good healer and a cynic similar to Reese but with a different set of ideas. She does have a feeling that Azu can get too confident with his theories sometimes.
Cyrida
Fonia has little patience for Cyrida's selfish antics, as when let into her camp on the good will of her friends, Cyrida was disrespectful to Fonia. Given her initial impression, she does not think Cyrida's motivations are honorable or genuine.
Alden
A character that was mentioned in passing while discussing with Moro about their pasts.
Verja
Fonia's Hawk companion who gave his soul in sacrifice to allow Fonia to be resurrected. She felt a connection with the animal when they both found the same refuge one winter. She believed it to be a gift from Ebvy, and proved to be a great guide for much of her life, even warned her of danger or strangers of bad character.
Trivia
- The name Fonia was a play on words with the word Aphonia which is a medical condition that prevents someone from speaking. In druidic it's closer to the translation of "Fire" because of her red hair, and later her wild and unpredictable nature as a child.
- Nitro originally created Fonia with the expectation she would not regain her voice. However, Yuma's benevolence deemed that a possibility a lot sooner than expected, which caused Nitro to never really establish a proper voice for her until her resurrection and watching 5 seasons of the TV show Vikings.
- Frer almost killed Fonia when he met back up with the party but didn't know who the person sleeping in the tree was. Everyone but him knew that she wasn't hostile, but Frer saw her as a spy of some sort and held a dagger up to her throat trying to interrogate her while she was incapable of speaking and unable to respond, until Moro convinced him to let go of her.
- Fonia, since her exile, almost never sleeps in a bed. She would always sleep in the trees to avoid strangers and animals, as well as being hidden.
- Fonia had created a cloak that was made of foliage from the forest that she could use to essentially hide in plain sight, however this cloak would become useless almost everywhere after she left the Whisper Hollow.
- Fonia had to learn to build an maintain her own bow, which led to many frustrating and painful errors in her early exile.
- Fonia's climbing axes, which were a gift of her father's, were specifically designed to climb trees, but Fonia found ways to expand possibilities of using it for stone as well. She also found a way to use them for throwing opponents.
- "Everyone tells me that if Fonia was an Overwatch character it would be Hanzo but I'm not buying that shit" ~Nitro
