—Rana

Rana El' Shazar is the master arcanist and adviser to the The Wild Hunt. He was met during the Malnathas campaign in which the party entered his shop, Arcana El' Rana and became quick friends with the Dragonborn. His two adopted children are Fayette and Tanner.

Description

Appearance

Rana is known notoriously for being 'large and in charge' as he stands at a hulking 6'6 and weighs a whopping 400 lbs. Being one of the many descendants of Sandwyrm eminence, Rana prefers to present himself as lavish and extravagant as possible. Rana has bright red scales that glitter with a golden shimmer. His jagged, draconic teeth are encased with golden caps that beam when he grins. His inner palms are covered in bright yellow that swirls in sun and moon patterns that travel up his arms. His ears are decorated in hoop rings as well as different studs containing decorative gems. Instead of typical horns that often curve atop a Dragonborn's head, Rana has two makeshift golden horns, covered in decorative chain that hang between the two. His 'Robe of Wyrm Archmagi' is a cyan color decorated in yellow and royal blue adornment runes. In the Sandwyrm Conclave, each rune is sewn after the member completes a certain task through becoming a Headmaster. Atop his nose sit likely the least expensive thing on his person, a pair of simple round glasses much too small for his face.

Biography

Backstory

Rana was born to a highly influential family full of headmasters in the Sandwyrm Conclave of Southern Caros in the city of Lamos Da. His family own a decently sized portion of the city known as the Shazari District, which contains the Lamasssu Maktaba, also known as The Grand Library. Rana spent most of his days as a child studying the grand scrolls in an effort to reveal the truth of the dark Ancient living beneath the sea between Northern and Southern Caros. Often seen as strange and needlessly pompous, Rana grew up with few friends of his own save for one, a Pantheran boy by the name of Kiym. While Rana was often neglected by his parents in favor of dealings in the Conclave, Kiym was a slave boy owned by one of his many uncles. Rana and Kiym often traveled together, growing together, and vowing that one would never leave the other. The two spent a grand amount of time exploring caves and the many halls of great temples searching for lost secrets. All that ended when Kiym was caught stealing attuning gems and was put up for public execution. Rana, whom was only seventeen years of age at the time, made a desperate effort to save his life. Kiym rejected this vehemently. Rana, desperate to keep his one friend safe, went through with it despite Kiym's wishes. Rana bought Kiym and had him shipped to Yani in Northern Caros where he could be free, but live separated from his own culture and alone. As punishment by the headmasters, Rana had his mantle horns torn from his head as an example to his idiocy.

Ashamed and alone, Rana stopped his search for answers regarding the ancient cataclysm, and instead researched on becoming an artificer. Knowing that his failure to abide by the rules and oaths of the Conclave would leave him unable to become a proper high ranking council member, he completed his trials as a simple headmaster and journeyed to Meryndan. It is there that he accepted a position as Master Arcanist and Archmage to Thymlyssa. Little is known regarding his time as the arcanist to the Empress other than somehow, someway, she marked him for life. He was removed from the position and began traveling the world in an effort to seek "answers" to a question unknown to even Rana's closest friends. It is during this time that he rescued Fayette and adopted her before settling down in Malnathas once more and opening Arcana El' Rana.

Introduction To the Party

While in Malnathas, the party decided to visit Arcana El' Rana as they explored the Sapphire Promenade. Upon entering, they startled Rana who hadn't noticed their entry. Frer'cahl purchased an enchantment for his crystal scimitar while Elodea purchased a magic tomb. The party enjoyed his company so much that they returned and assisted Rana in helping to get his daughter, Fayette out of the house for a small adventure. After becoming members of The Wild Hunt which belonged to Thymlyssa through a violent blood ritual in front a grand majority of the population of Malnathas, the party invited Rana to join them at Coldmourn after their departure from the Realm. They also cleared out a fungus infestation in his large basement for a few coin.

Following the The Summer Palace Tragedy, Rana offered solace to the party until they left for Coldmourn. They asked him to take care of Tanner, a half-elf child they rescued in the destruction who's mother was mercy killed by Kenton. Rana revealed a side unseen by the party in which he happily accepted Tanner as his son and promised to give him the life he knew his mother would've wanted for him. He cried as he thanked the party for believing in him. He promised to join them in time.

Upon settling in the newfound Deepshore, Rana used a teleportation rune to locate the high concentration of mana ether within the air thanks to Elodea, Azu, and Moro. He and Tanner settled down in the town and set up shop within an old granite building. After self-assuming position as the Master Arcanist in Deepshore as he once was in Malnathas, Rana was asked to be an adviser for the revamped Wild Hunt.

Trivia

  • Rana's theme song is Hearthstone's One Night in Karazhan menu music. Specifically, it was chosen for him following the auction house dance party in World of Warcraft which used the song.
  • He refuses to fight despite his immense magical prowess and ability and claims it as him being a "pacifist"... it is unknown if this is the truth.
  • His character "voice" is actually supposed to be similar to that of Alarak in Starcraft II: Legacy of The Void, but Beans doesn't have that kind of potential.
  • Rana is asexual and has no interest in ever finding a romantic partner. He values the love between family and friends over that of love between two romantic partners.
  • He believes the Mother is a clever hoax created by humanity as there is no true evidence of her one existence nor proper godhood like that of Sól and La Lúa.
  • He speaks Carosi, Common, Draconic, Infernal, Ignan, and a little bit of Deep Speech.
  • He introduced attuning gems to the party and has spiked their interest in locating more.
